Description

Please join us for our Eggs & Issues session titled "Are You OK?" on Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Moore Chamber. We will hear from Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, a clinical psychologist from the University of Denver in Colorado who has been working with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse on the "Are You OK?" initiative - a free online training that helps Oklahoma businesses reduce burnout and turnover and prevent suicide in the workplace. Dr. Spencer-Thomas will be discussing mental health in the workplace and how to help prevent burnout and employee turnover.

About the Campaign “Are You OK?”

In Oklahoma from 2019-2020, 1,685 people died from suicide, three times the number of those who die in a car accident.

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse launched a new, free training program to engage business owners and leaders. “Are You OK?” gives people a comfortable, accessible way to talk about mental health in the workplace. The program gives business leaders tools and an active role in preventing burnout and employee turnover, better equipping HR professionals and supervisors to support employee mental health and helping to foster a culture of care.

Some of the industries that have the highest suicide and depression rate are also some of Oklahoma City’s top employers: oil and gas, construction, automotive, agriculture, and trucking/transportation.
